The VW Zugkopf is a Transporter T6 variant designed to appeal to customers who wish to have a customised body built on each of the cabs. Simply unbolting the chassis separates the two cabs. In this case the two cabs will be converted into car transporters with a 1,730 kg payload by conversion experts Advanced KF Special Vehicles Ltd of Andover in Hampshire.
Once converted the car transporter will have a 4.56 metre aluminium open deck beaver tail body fitted with a recessed winch which will take most family cars. It also has 2.4 metre aluminium loading ramps. It can be driven on standard car licence without the need for a tachograph.
Reflecting on the amusement the Zugkopf raised when it was first delivered, Russell Higgs, business development manager at Greenhous VW Commercials in Bilston says: “There was some head scratching when it came off the vehicle transporter. Which end do you drive? The steering can be locked at either end and, with the gear in neutral, the whole vehicle could be driven around our compound to its storage facility, before it was collected by the specialist body builders. The purchaser is getting two vehicles at an initial price of £17,800 plus VAT.”
Boasting a sharper new look, refined and more efficient engines, and a host of safety, comfort and convenience features, the sixth-generation Transporter is set to continue the success of the previous five generations established over more than 60 years. The Transporter is Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ biggest selling model in the UK.
The T6 is also available in a range of variants including the panel van, the Kombi with side windows and removable seats acting as a passenger or cargo van, the Shuttle carrying up to 8 passengers and the top of the range Caravelle. There are also long wheel base options for the vans.
